Reflections: UP TO NOW

The Southeast Asian Ministry has been in existence now for just over thirteen years. We began in January, 1983 at Newport Mesa Christian Center under the good grace of then Senior Pastor George Wood and a very benevolent Church Board. Now, for the past three years we have been utilizing the gracious Provision of the Lord for facilities at First Assembly of God in Garden Grove.

The early days of SEAM involved strong outreach to Southeast Asian children, mostly Hmong. During a period of about six to seven years about two hundred and fifty of these children received Christ as their Lord and Savior. Many heard the Word bf God for the first tine. Gradually a strong youth outreach also developed and many Asian Teens were also touched and reached for Christ.

Then, the Lord brought the Kmhmu People to SEAM in 1989. They began to fit in so that now they are a very special part of this ministry.

Many of the children reached in the first phases of SEAM have grown to adulthood.

They have pursued a variety of courses. Some have gotten married, some are in college, some are working at various jobs. From the words that come back periodically most of these young people still walk with Christ. Many of their younger brothers and sisters also have come to know the Lord. Of course so many have moved to different locations in third, fourth, fifth waves of migration. This is not uncommon for these particular immigrant groups. But, they do take the light of Christ with them and are leading their own children in the ways of the Lord. How encouraging. Our labor is not in vain!

New Generation AG:
DEEPER ROOTS

Thank you to Ben Mclure for his gifted ministry in training people in music and worship leading. Pictured above he is with Pastor Kevin and Viengxai. Viengxai is growing in his worship leading and improving his hand at the keyboard.

Meanwhile, the Kmhmu brethren of New Generation AG are spiritually growing in Christ. God is using Pastor Kevin in some very gifted and unique ways as he shepherds his flock.

Saturdays find us in Satrrday School teaching English, Bible, and Laotian. On Aprit 7th we went on a field trip to San Diego to Institute for Creation Research. The children learned they did not come from monkeys, pigs, dinosaurs, or "slime and goo" after all.
