Gene -- Born and raised in San Diego, CA (even lived in La Mesa for a couple of years when young). Attended San Diego High School and graduated from Southern California College (1972) and Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary (1982). Taught public school in Orange County for three years and missionary kids with Wycliffe Bible Translators in Brazil and Peru (four years total). Taught in Mexico at Bible school with Church of God two years. and now teaching in Bible school and Christian University with the Assemblies of God since 1989.
Some long-range goals include:
Involved in teaching, preaching in local churches, and discipleship training. Just moved to San Miguel and we are presently soliciting those who can help with the construction of the Bible school. It will take funds and a lot of hard work. It certainly is, however, a worthy project. The Bible school is for training men and women for ministry in their own churches and in some cases to go as missionaries to other parts of the world. San Miguel is located in the Eastern part of the country close to a three-hour drive from the capital. It is part of the country that was hardest hit by the war.
Sue, my wife, is just now beginning to homeschool our two oldest children (our oldest is a boy of 9 and a daughter of 6. We also have two younger, a daughter of four and another son two and a half years of age).
The Kings Kastle last week had a group of 200, most of who were from the States (college students, etc.) who held evangelistic campaigns in parks, plazas and the shopping mall in San Miguel. They had special singing, drama and testimonies. There were those whose lives were touched, received Christ as Savior and some who even reported diving healing. Don and Terri Triplett are the missionaries with the Assemblies of God who founded and direct this ministry. We were present at some of the presentations and had lots of the young people stay over at our place there and many more for breakfast. Last Sunday I preached in the afternoon service of a church in San Miguel and also led the devotional service at the military hospital on Monday afternoon. We also passed out Gideon free New Testaments and gospel tracts to all of the patients and hospital staff in the hospital.
Pray for boldness to share the gospel message that there is forgiveness of sin and salvation in Jesus Christ, God's Son. Pray also, please, for workers or work teams that can come and help work on the construction project for the Bible school. We figure that it will take ten or twelve teams each bringing about a dozen workers (who can mix cement and lay block mostly. Unskilled workers also welcomed as long as they are willing to learn, of course), and there is also a need for the teams to bring about $10,000 each to help with the purchase of construction materials. A video of the project is available on request.
