Praise Reports
from Larry and Francine Killion
In Jesus' parable of the "Sower" (reference Luke 8),
he tells of seeds - the Word of God - being sown upon various
kinds of soils. It takes several "persons" to see the
seed yield a harvest. First, it takes a Sower to broadcast
the "seeds." Secondly, it takes a Waterer - the
Holy Spirit - to make the seeds grow, and it takes a Harvester
to glean the "crop." God has shown us that our responsibility
is as the Sower, the Broadcaster, of the seed of the Word of God
and we are not to worry about the kind of "soil" on
which it falls. We train and assist Missionaries and Christian
nationals from many countries in the production of Television
and Radio programs that reach their own people with the message
of Christ. These brothers and sisters "reap the harvest"
of souls and see to it that new babes in Christ are nurtured and
discipled. Ours is a difficult ministry, since we rarely have
direct contact with those whose lives our work touches.
This does not make the ministry ineffective, however. On the
contrary, we have received many hundreds of reports of changed
lives from those we assist in Africa, the Middle East, Western
and Eastern Europe, Latin America and Southeast Asia.
The following are just a few of the marvelous things the Lord
has done this past term:
- In 1992, Larry worked to finalize the audio editing on a film
for English-speaking Africa entitled "Sabina's Encounter."
This film brings to light and gives God's answer for a common
problem in Africa: The barren wife. This poignant story, featuring
professional African actors, was shot on location in Kenya by
International Media Ministries and is accentuated with music and
colorful scenery only the African landscape can provide. Since
Larry's work on the project, the film has been taken to villages
in the far reaches of Africa via portable generator and film projector
and has been shown on several East Africa television stations
with a potential audience in the hundreds of thousands.
A harvest of many souls has been reported. Give God the glory
for his hand on this project!
- In 1991 and 1992, Francine directed the taping of a total
of 116 "Inspirational Insights" programs for broadcast
over a TV Station in Lebanon's demilitarized zone by Middle East
Television. Featuring Dr. Menes Abdul-Noor, a noted Egyptian
pastor and scholar of the Bible and the Koran, these programs
give Jesus' answer for problems of today, presented by Dr. Noor
in a way that draws the viewer to embrace Christianity in a loving
and gentle way. When Brother Andrew met with the leader of the
Druze Militia several months ago, Brother Andrew was asked if
he knew Dr. Noor. When he responded in the affirmative, the leader
said, "I think every Jew and every Muslim should watch these
programs!" Quite a remarkable statement from a military
man! The estimated potential audience for these programs:
309 Million!
- In mid-1991, Larry was asked to be involved in a project that
was to be the most intense work of his missionary term. Christian
Broadcasting Network had contracted with the Romanian Government
to broadcast CBN's popular cartoon series, "Superbook"
and asked Larry to head the project at International Media Ministries
to replace the English voices on the 52-program series with Romanian
voices so the series could be aired in prime time on the
single national television network. Three months of audio work
later, and after Francine videoedited the credits and titles,
the programs were broadcast in all of Romania beginning December
1991. To date, more than one and a half million letters
have been received by the Evangelical Alliance of Bucharest in
response to a write-in offer for more information about this "Superbook"
- the Bible! Each correspondent receives information about the
Life of Jesus and the Bible. Many testimonies of salvations have
resulted. Just one testimony is of a young lady that
had decided to commit suicide. She received the material sent
to her about Jesus and gave her heart to the Lord, knowing that
He had shed His blood for her -she didn't have to shed hers!
The estimated potential audience for the Superbook programs:
10 Million!
- In 1993, we both traveled to Moscow to oversee the production
of a project that has had far-reaching results. In 1991 and 1992,
Francine directed and edited 12 episodes of IMM's French children's
puppet program, "Boulevard Des Enfants" and later produced,
directed and edited a Christmas Special, "Noel de Coco et
Clementine." In both projects, Larry directed the audio
recording and created music and sound effects to make the programs
come alive. When the Assemblies of God missionaries of the Commonwealth
of Independent States (CIS) expressed a strong desire to have
this puppet series in the Russian language, we went to Moscow
to seek a production facility to record (dub) the purest of Muscovite
voices on the programs and a bilingual Russian producer to oversee
the project. When we left Russia eight days later, the Lord had
not only put us in touch with a perfectly suited producer,
but also a production facility - in spite of the fact that
Moscow - and probably all of Russia - has no telephone books!
We just received word that these programs are now being aired
over 8 Russian Television Stations and over stations in the Ukraine,
Siberia, Kazakstan and war-torn Yugoslavia -- all with local write-in
centers to follow up on those that give their hearts to the Lord.
The estimated potential audience for the French and Russian
versions of these programs: 309 Million!
- Just before leaving for furlough, Francine was asked to direct
the taping of four music videos for possible broadcast. The music
group, Allpa Yuraq, from Peru, was on a tour through Europe
and had been in ministry with the Spanish Outreach of Christian
Center (DFM Missions Church in Rhode-Saint Genese, Belgium).
Francine taped two of their songs in the ruins of an old abbey
(c. 967 AD) in Villers-la-Ville, Belgium and two in the studios
of International Media Ministries. She edited them together into
four music videos that are part of a program about pastors being
martyred for preaching the gospel in Peru, called, "The Gospel
in Latin America". These have just been broadcast
in Belgium over the Francophonic Network, RTBF. This is a miracle
in and of itself, since evangelistic programs are rarely, if ever
broadcast over Belgian Television. We count it a privilege to
have been a part of this blessed "first!" We also have
learned that the music videos were featured in a program aired
in December over a private station that reaches most of the country
of Estonia. The estimated potential combined Belgian and Estonian
audience: More than 7 Million!
These are just five testimonies of God's hand on the many programs
we have had a part in at International Media Ministries this past
term. When we totaled the potential audience for only a portion
of the programs on which we have worked, the figure was astounding
676.9 Million!
What the Future Holds
When we return to our next term of work with IMM after our current
deputation cycle, we anticipate working closely with French-speaking
Christians to help them develop programs to evangelize the people
of France and the more than 20 million Francophones in other
countries of the world. In addition, we anticipate even more
intense work with those within the "10-40" window -
the most unreached peoples of the world. We expect reports of
a tremendous harvest of souls! We long to return to our tremendously challenging and fulfilling work overseas.
