SPRING 1996

Greetings, dear friends,

We would like to share with you about the events which have happened in the city of La Paz during these first months of 1996. Each has impacted the life and ministry of Centro Familiar Cristiano (Family Christian Center), the congregation that started in the tent crusade and is now a functioning church.

HOLY SPIRIT CONFERENCE

In January, the church hosted a Holy Spirit Congress (Congreso del Espiritu Santo) inviting the churches of La Paz.. It was standing-room-only each night in the 3,617 square foot sanctuary which you helped provide for these new believers. David and Doris Godwin were the invited evangelists. Teaching sessions were held during the day... Receptive, eager people were sincerely seeking God with all their hearts and finding Him faithful to answer. Several were baptized in the Holy Spirit...

EVANGELISM CONFERENCE

The pastors and leaders of our Mexican Assemblies of God churches making up the District on the Baja peninsula were then hosted by the La Paz church in a Congress on Evangelism (Congreso de Evangelismo). Our national assistant superintendent of the Mexican Assemblies of God, Enrique Gonzales, and Assemblies of God missionary to Singapore, Naomi Dowdy, brought the teaching and inspirational preaching for these days. The impact was positive and we sense an eagerness among the Baja churches to become more effective in outreach and efficient in growth.

FESTIVAL OF LIFE

Our Assemblies of God churches were active workers in the city-wide campaign sponsored by the Horizons International ministries directed by Mike McIntosh. It was gratifying to look down from the stadium bleachers and observe so many serving as ushers who have been saved in the tent crusade along with others who are students we have taught in the Bible School Extention and watch them go forward as counsellors to talk with those who responded to the invitation to come to Christ during the massive crusade.

The following week the pastor of Centro Familiar Cristiano, Hector Ortiz, was sharing with the congregation that they had been given over 130 of the decision cards from the Festival of Life for follow- up. Now these relatively new disciples of Christ will be nuturing newer disciples as the work of the Lord grows here.

In other parts of the State, miles removed from La Paz, work also continues.

LORETO EASTER WEEK OUTREACH

Twelve years ago, your prayers and help "planted" the church in Loreto. During the Easter vacation, we returned to Loreto along with a team of young people from Lhe first Assembly of God in La Paz to work with the congregation there. Child evangelism crusades were held each morning in two separate locations impacting the lives of over 200 children. Dressed and painted as clowns, the group from La Paz quickly won the hearts of the children of Loreto and effectively assisted us in ministry to them...

Additionally we worked in two ranch communities out from town, miles off the highway over rough dirt roads.

One night at each of the respective ranch villages and five consecutive evenings in the city of Loreto, Christian films were shown using the video projector purchased for us by Southern California MISSIONETTES. These nightly open air crusades attracted numerous interested people with whom the Gospel was vividly shared. The week climaxed with individuals makings decisions for Christ...

SANTA ROSALTA CHURCH PLANTING PROJECT: We are eager to see God's grace working in the lives of many who live in other Baja towns still without evangelical churches. We hope to soon report that Lhe business transactions are completed to purchase the property in the city of Santa Rosalia so~that this new area will be ready for a crusade and its own church We still lack about $900 to purchase this land. This is Division of Foreign Missions PROJECT #2210-Santa Rosalia Church Planting. As the negociations conclude, the spiritual challenge is just beginning.

We so appreciate those of you who continue to remain faithful in prayer, concern and financial support for us. Thank you. We are also grateful for the many expressions of love sent to us in birthday greetings.. Thanks so much.

We are glad to beWorkers together with you,

Ed, Jeanette and Jonathan McCallie
